The beginnings of the new age

The beginnings of the new age

Because this blog might seem like a mission impossible, I have to say this. “As always, should you or any of your Friends be caught reading this, I will disavow any knowledge of your actions. These pages might self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, dear reader.”

I respect and practice the original teachings of Jesus. So when I read in five verses that Jesus spoke about, “The end of the age.[i] I was happy. We certainly need this assurance that the injustices, ignorance and indifference of the old age are going to end.  And it seems we are in the beginnings of this new age happening. The old way is struggling to maintain its power and the new age is struggling to ensure its birth. But I soon discovered that what people believe Jesus said was, “the end of the world” as found in the King James Version of the Bible.

He literally said “the end of the age.” Most Christians it seems are not aware of this colossal translation error from the original Greek. Therefore they are not talking about the end of the age, like Jesus – and what that means for this world – but are talking about the destruction of this world. I am reminded of a few years ago of the quoted Mayan “prediction” of the end of the world. It was not the end of the world, but the end-date of a 5,126-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Their calendar was a surprisingly precise system of reckoning of time in regards to the precession of the equinoxes.

I am pointing this out, because this mistranslation of Jesus has lead to gloomy misconceptions about what Jesus taught on the future changes coming in this new age. These will be improvements in this world and in individuals. The end of the world hypothesis has an extremely bleak outcome – like going down with the ship. This pessimistic view of the future – believed to be a prophecy of Jesus – is one of the many reasons why tens of millions of followers are leaving Christianity.

Who wants to be told the end of the world is coming?

As a little boy my father grew up in Italy. Present even in his small village there was the negative talk of religious doomsayers. One day his small village was abuzz with the impending end of the world. Someone had spread the prophecy news that tonight would be the end.

Well, my father being an Italian, loved food, especially pastry. Being a trusting child he thought to himself, “I want to eat some good pastry before end of the world. I don’t know if there is any Italian pastry in Heaven.”

So he smashed his little piggy bank and bought as much of the best pastry as his money would buy. He then went up the little hill outside his village and waited with the entire village for the end of the world to come. He enjoyed his pastry. He waited all night. He went back to work the next day. And now you know how the rest of the story ended.

To me, it seems like entrenched dogmatic religion has a lot of senselessness, craziness, madness, and fantasy which increases anxiety and despair.

But there is hope.

Even with the incorrect translation of the “end of the world”, this statement should be understood as the end of the world’s delusion of selfishness, fear, ignorance, anger, greed, and mental darkness in the minds of evil-bent individuals. The beginning of this new age starts as soon as each individual has burned up the world’s delusions.  Like the phoenix, this new age will arise from the ashes of the world’s delusions.  With the increasing strength of positive compassionate kindred souls supporting each other, this new age gains traction. We can all see the increasing amount of conflict and turmoil Jesus referred to as confirmation of “the end of the age” – that the power struggle is evident.

However, some people possessing religious power and authority do not want to relinquish their control, prestige or lifestyle. They talk in terms of “the end of the world” because they fear their world is ending. Because of this fear, they condemn many people who are seeking out the dawning of the new age – to break free of the shackles of slavery to dogma and despair; to end the power of pessimistic fatalistic doomsayers that saps your will to create the changes.

The original Christianity of Jesus is positive, powerful, and perfect. It will survive and thrive in the next two thousand years and more. Another sensible understanding of Jesus’ “the end of the age” statement is that he is referring to this age which will end the distorted, dogmatic, damaged Christianity. That was a religious nightmare- not based upon what Jesus taught.

In my first book I chose one of the major themes that Jesus taught: Love God, Love Neighbor, Love Self. I identified this theme embedded in eight religions, each with their own specific variations. This book can be purchased on Amazon.

To help reintroduce the original message of Jesus I will describe the positive system and yoga of Jesus in my upcoming book entitled: A Search for the Truths in Christianity. Follow the system and take twenty minutes each day to practice the positive yoga meditation of Jesus- a holistic balanced way of reaching a life more abundantly. This is especially relevant to younger people, who view Christianity with indifference and disillusionment. The historical Christianity will be replaced by the original Christianity that Jesus taught and lived.

Your soul is seeking a tangible experience of Spirit now, not pastry in the sky later.

Dedicated to my father.

  1. Very important to point out such a colossal mistranslation, as you said above. The end of an age is VERY different than the end of the world. Language frames how we see the world. I think your blog (and book) will help people to understand the true essence of the teachings of Jesus.

Also, your story about your dad is very cute. And I like that you dedicated this post to him.

    🙂

  2. Very interesting. I wish my mom could have read this. She was always watching out and preparing for the end. On the other hand, she would have been very unhappy to live in the world we are currently living in. She probably would have wished for the end to be near!
Thank you your clarity on this interpretation.

  3. Another point, most people think that religion is only about being happy in the next life. No it is about being happy in this life and the next life.
Too many people confuse pleasure and happiness!

    1. Thanks Mike for your comment. Yes, Jesus said, “the kingdom of heaven is at hand” – not in a far away galaxy or some far in the future.

  4. In my opinion these words are very true. The more I work on “self” the more I realize how insane negative emotions such as fear, anger, suspicion, etc. are and how we can be so easily controlled by them. My thought on happiness is that it is somewhat of a ghost. However, with practice, Peace can be immediately available whatever the circumstance. Therefore I wish for humanity much more Peace. Thank you for your wonderful books!

  5. I do believe all of the ideas you’ve introduced on your post. They are really convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are too brief for newbies. Could you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.

    1. This site will expand upon the topics and themes in my book, The Cosmic Religion: Love God, Love Neighbor, Love Self: Available for purchase through Amazon here.

    work.

  7. Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to
say that I’ve truly enjoyed browsing your blog posts.
In any case I will be subscribing to your feed and
I hope you write again very soon!

  8. I’m impressed, I must say. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both equally educative and interesting,
and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head.

The problem is something which not enough folks are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy I stumbled across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
